QandA
Who is Andy Whitlock and how can he help you?
Q&A
Q: IS THE HUMAN HALF an agency?
A: No. Mostly, I’m one person working directly with founders and CMOs. However, for ‘big hairy’ projects (especially rebrands that require visual identity work) I’ll pull together a team of fist-bitingly talented and seasoned specialists—designers, writers, animators and so on.
This ‘pop-up’ model means you get exactly the team, or person, you need for your specific project.
Q: WHAT’S your PROCESS?
A: It depends on the project, what existing research you have and what your budget is. Brand positioning projects are generally bow-tie-shaped though:
I start wide and deep to understand your company, customers and competition; a simple idea is distilled from the information; that simple idea is turned into a toolkit that can be applied to everything.
Q: Do you have MUCH B2B experience?
A: Yes, loads. Architects, productivity software, growth platforms, ad marketplaces and VCs. I also coach B2B leaders on brand strategy through Sales Impact Academy.
Q: HAVE YOU WORKED IN SECTOR X?
A: Many clients ask if I have experience in their industry. I usually have, but it’s not something to get hung up on. It can often be an advantage having not worked in a sector - it means I can come at the challenge fresh, without any biases.
Q: WHAT ARE YOUR RATES?
A: I prefer to agree flat fees for projects, rather than work to a day rate. There are usually ways to design a process to fit your specific budget or timeline. For brand strategy projects, the usual range is between £18k and £30k. I can deliver a sprint version of the process for closer to £10k.
A: WHY iS YOUR WEBSITE SO… PLAIN?
A: Ha. Well, there’s a lot of ‘dynamic’ (shouty) language and design in the world of brand consultancies. But, counterintuitively, it’s far harder to write less, more quietly, and still say what matters. Which is the point.
My most important job is to help you get to simplicity—to edit down until the thousand things you’re thinking about become the one thing that unlocks it all. The results should be exciting (see my case studies) but my website’s here to offer clarity. That’s always the best starting point.
